About
Hey! I am Fillia, the voice and creative behind From Her Home.
I am a Christian homemaker, a Biblical counselling student, and a creative in England, UK. I was born and raised in Indonesia, and have been abroad since 2011.
I love reading, writing, painting, composing music, doing bookbinding, and designing fun journaling/bookish-related stationery.
My ultimate life desire is to glorify the Lord in my life through the work of my hands; and to be the helpmeet for my husband.
Once upon a writer
Ever since I was a child, I’ve been somewhat creative, but writing was more my thing back then. Long before the existence of blogging platforms such as Multiply and MySpace, I used to have a lot of notebooks where I wrote my own short stories or series as well as a collection of poems. Those notebooks were then passed around the classroom and to the next-door classrooms to be read by friends —some would leave their comments on the comment pages I left blank in each book. My writing journey continued to some publications and writer/contributor/journalist occupations later on. My love of writing was bolstered by my fascination with anything paper and stationery. Yep! You bet, I keep a locked personal diary, collect journals and stationery, and have penpals.
Accidental Illustrator
My occupation as a writer somehow made me an accidental illustrator. It happened twice to be exact. I was part of a children book project and later a curriculum project for young people when they couldn’t find illustrators and somehow they made me pick up a pencil and start drawing. There you have it!
Drawing has become one of my things since then, and I started to learn how to paint and have found my favourite medium to work with: oil paint.
Music
Growing up surrounded by talented musicians, I have a sweet love for music. Although never professionally trained, I played instruments to assist worship at churches, became part of my school band, joined various other bands, and competed in school competitions and also a national band competition. I wrote my first original song in 2008 and have since created more originals. In 2014, my workplace sent me to London to study Music Therapy while I taught and co-coordinated weekly music workshops in Milton Keynes.
Sewing
My sewing and designing journey started when I was little. I was sparingly doodling dresses. Later on, my Dad bought me a sewing machine and I started to learn how to sew. It wasn’t easy at all. My sewing machine was an old-style Singer that came with a pedal and a table. Oh, I remember the nightmare of oiling the machine! My sewing skill was stagnant but I kept making designs. At one point, I decided to call a seamster. In Indonesia, we have seamsters who work from their bicycles. They usually cycle around places to find customers. They cost very little compared to those at the shops. So I called this guy, showed him a couple of my designs, and explained what I wanted. He agreed to work with me and he made a blouse and a dress from my designs as a trial. Then, I started selling them online. I did do my own sewing too and I made bags to sell too. One of the most favoured was the sling back in guitar shape. Oh, I so remember that exciting time in life.
Fast forward to 2013, I started using sewing at the Weavery Workshop where I used to work. Mostly making bags, book covers, purses, and other similar stuff. From the end of 2016 to 2017, I wanted to study Fashion Design and began the proses of building up my portfolio. I had the privilege to take part as a designer and maker in a fashion show in Bristol. It was a sweet time. Unexpectedly, instead of a Fashion School in the UK, I ended up in a seminary in the USA later on. Despite the sudden turn, I still sew and progress in my sewing skills.
PERKS
Upon returning to the UK at the end of 2021 —after 3 years of studying in the US, I decided to open a bindery and art shop online. Restuti was created in January 2022 offering various kinds of handmade journals, notebooks, notepads, papers, and various illustrated goods.
In 2023 I added a slow fashion collection to the shop. At last in September 2024, after a long break, I reopened this shop and merged the shop with my personal blog: From Her Home.
Thank you so much to everyone who has been part of this journey, and continues to support me even when I’m still trying to figure it all out. So grateful that you’re here. I hope you enjoy browsing and finding your new favourite stationery and clothing from this little shop. If you would like to request a custom order or have any inquiries, kindly contact us and I will be glad to work with you.
